I have (possibly) committed an atrocity.

I recently bought a Klein Aeolus frame set on eBay and was installing the Record BB cups. Well, the first one went on fine; for the most part anyway. No cross-threading there, at least. Then I moved on to the non-drive side... I was able to thread it on nearly all the way, which is when I ran into serious trouble. I had cross-threaded the darn thing! It was extremely difficult to get off, but somehow I managed. Then, I thought to take out the bb cups with the good threads and give it a try on the damaged side of the bottom bracket. It wouldn't go on. I wasn't able to get the first cup to go on by hand either. I dared not try the Campy wrench again. It was later that I discovered threading was different on both sides but I had tried ccw and cw. Anyway, then I moved on to the good cup on the correct side again and just when it was almost completely on, I ran into the same trouble... very difficult to thread on. I realized later that I had neglected to clean out the metal filings left by other bb cup, which wreaked havoc on the aluminum bottom bracket! The damage to the threads on this one was very severe--even more so than the first.

My nearly-completed bike is in the shop right now and I've yet to receive a diagnosis but I would like to ask a group of knowledgeable bikers if they have any suggestions? This is my first bike build and I'm a newbie on bikes in general. It would be awful to see such a beautiful, lightweight frame rendered unusable just because of a stupid mistake. Something tells me I'm not the only one that's been in a bind like this. I should also mention that I've already emailed Klein about this issue, in case anyone asks.

an experienced LBS mechanic should be able to take an awl or scribe and tap the threads correctly. Good luck
