If it were YOUR choice...
Hi...I'm a lurker (and a runner but I know my knees won't last forever...)
I've been riding my kids (I'm tiny) old mtn bike since March, I do like it and duals next season would be cool so it's time to get a bike for me...I have about a grand, with a little wiggle room, to spend.
Went to my LBS w/ and tried a WSD Trek 1000 and it worked for me, was ready to buy the bike, pedals and new shoes, helmet, cages, shorts et al for a bit less than my budget amount....
THEN the guy said try this one and he put me on a Cannondale Synapse Feminine 3..so sweet, sigh...
and said he'd work it out so the bike could hit really close to my budget....
His thoughts are that if I end up loving to ride, I'll probably "outgrow" the Trek in a year or if I really hated riding, the Synapse would be a better resale value........
I know what I SHOULD do and I know what I WANT to do but I'd like to know....what would you do?
Thanks.....

Bikes are like candy...when in doubt, go with the sweetest.

Shouldn't be a difficult decision.
You get significantly better components and more "bling" in the wheelset. Plus, it's the bike that you really want.
A year from now, if you buy the Trek, you will have forgotten how you spent the difference but you'll still be stuck riding the bike that you "settled" for.

You're asking a bunch of junkies if they'd rather have more or less crack. As you can see, the answer is pretty predictable.
Really, there's nothing that a recreational rider can't do with the Trek that can be done with the C'Dale. It won't hold you back and it will work well for a long time if properly cared for.
Now with that said, I'd go with the C'Dale too unless I'd have to dip into the grocery or rent money. It =is= a better bike and it will hold more of its value longer (although bike depreciate to nothing pretty fast).
