Delayed action on fractured clavicle

Three weeks ago I fractured my left clavicle during a crash while playing bike polo. The pain wasn't too bad and I ignored it for the next two weeks before getting in to see the doctor. I got x-rays and it appears to be a distel third fracture and a clean break at that. (some scanned images can be seen here: http://kmaxtrax.blogspot.com/2007/06...his-sucks.html) Since it's already been three weeks I'm guessing it has already started healing and I'm assuming that any kind of treatment I have to get done will involve re-breaking the bone and then resetting with possible surgery and pin/plate application to hold it in place.

Does anyone have any experience with something like this? Any suggestions or advce to offer regarding what kind of routes I could take or options I have? I'm meeting with an Orthopedic surgeon on Friday but I'd like to go in with as much knowledge on this as possible so I can make a quick decision about where to go with this.

Thanks,
Kmax

That's pretty much what my broken clavicle looked like. Separated by enough tissue that surgery was the only option. Had a plate installed to hold it together. 2 years later had it removed. I have a nice long scar along my collarbone, and the bone itself is a little bumpy, but otherwise fine and I'm told as strong as it was before the break. The best thing about it is getting to keep the shiny titanium plate that was once a part of me. Made for a great keychain.

I couldn't tell you about any other options, as I never really explored any. If it's something that concerns you, then I'd suggest getting a second opinion.

Hmmm. I've a fractured clavical right now. They (orthopedic surgeon) said the best treatment was no treatment. Same for the pelvis, except for mucho physican therapy. They're all different, though. Clavical is no problem to me, unlike the pelvis.

For the record, it seeems I ran into a car. Not sure of the details.
