Caring for your bike after rain rides

I want to hear what to do to your bike after you ride in the rain.

3 scenarios, please touch on each one and make it clear.

A) It's a light rain, no puddles.

B) It's a moderate rain, puddles, you get your shirt a little bit wet.

C) It's a tropical mansoon, very very wet. You are wet, your undies are wet, you are socked.

For all three:
Shake the water off your bike, change clothes, oil your chain before you ride again.

I heard something about oiling the drive train after rain rides. Anything? I have aluminum bike, with Shimano 27 speed..

If not for rain, when would you oil things? I love my bike, caring for it is not a big deal, in fact productive, since I'm using it instead of my mustang.

PREVIOUS POSTER: how to oil chain? What kind of oil, motor oil good?

A.) nothing
B.) Avoid puddles, wipe off bike with rag
C.) Wipe off bike, wipe off drivetrain, and put where it will dry well. Then oil drivetrain with Finish Line chain oil.

I might have to pedal to LBS to get Chain Oil. Can use WD-40 as a substitude before I ride there?

It's didn't get too soaked, I'd say a light B.

A) Nothing
B) I run a rag over the frame and drivetrain. If the chain needs oil, I oil it.
C) I run a rag over the frame and drivetrain. I sometimes take the seatpost out and leave the bike upside-down in the stand to dry, then re-grease the seat tube. If the chain needs oil, I oil it.

Don't use WD-40 on your chain. Is your chain squeaking like mad? If not, you can ride it to the shop. If so, you can probably still ride it to the shop

A) Nothing.

B) Probably nothing. If I'm feeling energetic, I'll wipe my rims down.

C) I'll wipe my rims down. If my bike is really full of crap, I'll wipe it down a bit so it doesn't sludge on the floor in the office.

I wipe my tires to keep the floors clean, and then bring in my bike. Or if I park it outside, I put a plastic bag on the saddle.

Ditto. And I won't have my shirt wet because I would have worn my rain coat.

Ditto, though I'm more likely to lift the bike until it reaches its destination in the boots bin. Then water will drop nicely over the day. And I won't be too wet because I'll have full rain gear.

As for other maintenance, I'm likely to re-lube my chain a few weeks later because it will squeak.

A. I use the water left in my bottles to spray the sand and grit off the Bottom Bracket and Down Tube.

B. I do the same as A, and give the chain a wipe, and probably re-lube it the next day.

C. Same as A, with a full wash, wipe, and re-lube.
