MUSIC!!! y'all forgot music! i found out on my first club ride that the owner of our local bike shop has the exact same taste in music as i do. and whenever i go into the shop, i hear a new underground artist to check out. it's a great shop, has almost all the stuff that was mentioned in the initial post.

Look closely at the the proprietor....does he walk with a limp? does he have road rash scars on his hands/forearms? or better yet - on his face? Mine does! He loves to ride and has crashed many a time!

I'm surprised at the 'cool place to hang out' responses. Here, the 'cool place to hang out' allowed customers to converge and get friendly with the owner . In return, the owner would often give deals on parts. Unfortunately, that business has closed.
I agree, it should be a fun place, but one which promotes cycling, as opposed to the cliqueish hangout which often excludes 'outsiders'.
