Hello,

I'm looking to buy myself an entry-level hybrid bike, as I'd like to get more into street biking, but still be able to ride gravel trails if need be.

I have my eye on two bikes at the moment, both of which are available in my area. Could you please let me know which I should go with?

The first is an Iron Horse Adventure 1.0.

Heya, sorry you haven't had any responses. I think that would be down to the fact that you've already narrowed your choice down to two, and they're both pretty much the same.

One would say that the best way to choose would be to go for a test ride. If you can't do that and there's no other difference you can think of, the only thing that strikes me is the difference in shifters. One is twisty shifters, one is rapidfire. I personally prefer rapidfire, but up to you.

The iron horse looks less gay. And it doesn't have a dork disc. And it has the rapidfire shifters. There - go with that.

As Nicodemus said, they are fairly close spec wise. I also prefer Rapidfire shifters, but, even though the bikes are close in specs, I`d have to give a slight nod to the K2 on componentry, better wheels, rear derailleur among them. Still, it will depend on which one feels and fits the best for you. We`re basically talkin` six of one, half dozen of another here. Have fun and enjoy.

I went to the store yesterday to try them out. Unfortunately, they didn't have the right size in either of those bikes to fit me... I'm 6' 3" so I'm guessing I'll need at least a 21" frame. Probably even 23"?

So I've been doing some more looking around and came across a Giant Cypress.

But at $360 Canadian, I'm thinking the price is a bit high. Any idea if I can get a bike store to come down in price? And what is a good price for this bike?

You might not be able to get them to come down pricewise, but you can often get them to throw in some freebies, like a helmet or???
My LBS was willing to change out the Free Wheel to something more appropriate for my "flatland" riding. For me, a 28T big cog is more than big enough. I don't even need the 2 smaller rings! I'd have no use for a 32-34T.

I like neither of these. With K2, I'd go with Mach 2.0 or better.


It appears that comfort equals compfortable sit, all terrain wheels, and no drop handlebars. All these features are like a down grade. I'd get a road bike, and if I need to ride gravel, I get tires that can handle it.


I seen a nice K2, brand new 2007, go on eBay for $499, still unassembeled. Now that's a good bike.

Yeah, damn those comfortable seats, what a downgrade from the..... uncomfortable ones?

Honestely. I have a racing seat, whatever I have there, expensive one. After about week of riding, it's just as compfortable as my office chair.


Aluminum over bumpy roads = not so compfortable because hands get sore, in bicept area. But not after a week of riding. You kind of get used to your bike.
