Bike misfits
Anyone else in here work in a kitchen? Just wondering because sometimes cyclists are seen as misfits in the everyday world. Same goes true for cooks and chefs. We seem to be the eccentric oddballs in society. Just wondering what other people thought. BTW there are 3 other guys that I work with who ride too.

I'd love to be a chef... add photographers to that list of oddballs... I'm one... and most of the ones I know are just a bit off center :-) I almost went to culinary school.. but opted for photo instead ;-0

I gotta agree. My gf is a chef and most of our friends are either line cooks or chef's. Gotta say of all the people I know (I am also a programmer/full time geek) no body beats out cooks for being really odd. You guys have a unique perspective on life and how to live it. Especially at 1am when the restaurant closes after plating 400. Haha...lots of fun.

Seems to me riders come from all walks of life. In the club I belong to we have doctors, lawyers, secretaries, teachers, a game warden, a brewer and I'm a hardwood flooring contractor. If I thought about it I could go on. We all love to ride and I wouldn't consider just too many of us to be misfits.
I'm not saying theres anything wrong with being a misfit. We can't all be P.W. Herman though, you rebels and loners. But maybe, just maybe we could understand, being riders ourselves.

I don't think I have a boss, co-worker, customer, friend, relative or even a spouse than doesn't think I am nut for riding a bicycle.
Really I am a horrible rider, but I can tell them I just rode a 62 miler and they will act like I should be in the Tour!

I don't have many cyclist where I work and in the neighborhood I live in. Most everyone I know, work with and even ride with thinks, and tell me often how crazy they thnk I am, they call me cyclepathic and tell me I have screws loose just about every time we meet. It's all just because they want to be like me, they want to ride a bike everywhere they go, in the cold, the wet and the sunshine, they want to ride to work, on errands and to just go out and enjoy the countryside as they see me do. For some reason, they just don't do it, they razz me instead, I feel they do this to somehow justify not getting out there. They don't know what they are missing, the things you see, the peolpe you meet, the adventures you encounter everyday, the healthy body you get to enjoy lugging around and true satisfaction of it all. I guess the bottom line is,
THEY JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND,
THEY JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND,

I went with my neighbor to pick up his boat and tow it home from a home across the county. We were inside for a few minutes, a cycling event came across the tv screen. My neighbor says,"Ted rides a bike." "How far?" I answer,"About 20 miles or so per day"
Suddenly, you would think that I had grown a third eye. Oh,God! The stares. The guy we were visiting said that his only exercise was work, and holding down the chair that he was sitting in. And I had this inner thought .............
Best,

Every lane is a bike lane
Personally I think being a social outcast is one of the biggest advantages of riding. I even have other riders tell me I'm crazy for riding some of the places I ride. So what? My answer is the Manic Street Preachers quote in my signature.
