Problems with Routeslip.com. Alternatives?
I've had problems using routeslip.com for the last couple of days. I can go to the website and browse through user routes, but can't seem to properly log in to view my saved routes or create new ones. A quick search of BF leads me to believe that this has been going on at least 10 days or so. I've recently moved and am looking to see what other cyclists in my area are riding (Ellicott City, MD near Columbia, MD... close to Rt 103 off of 100). Anybody else having this problem? Any suggestions for alternative websites that have similar features?

Try bikely.com ( https://www.bikely.com/ ) Similar features and much better cue sheets.
Glad I noticed your post. I'll have to remap a 6 or 7 routes if routeslip.com gets unreliable.

mapmyride.com works really well for me, and they have recently fixed the altitude miscalculations so it seems quite accurate as well. If you have Google Earth I really like their export feature so you can overlay your route with regular street maps or satellite/topo maps.

Yeah, it's a shame about routeslip, if this keeps up. I've got a handful of routes on there... I guess it doesn't mater too too much seeing as I'm going to have to come up with a bunch of other routes anyways, might as well do them on a new website.
So... bikely and mapmyride... (two good suggestions in about an hour, plus one testimonial -- I love this forum )
Anybody else got another alternative to routeslip? Anything else to say about bikely vs mapmyride? In terms of the features I'm likely to use (drawing routes, printing cue sheets, looking at elevation profiles) they look pretty similar from what I can tell after a brief glance. I guess, for me, the choice comes down to which has the most users contributing routes (specifically in the MD area).

From the routeslip.com blog: He doesn't have any time available to support the site now. It's been this way for a few months at least.
I lost most of my routes, and if I create one, I can't edit it after it's been saved once. So I'm checking the alternatives.
MapMyRide has a button to export the route to Google Earth-- that's nice.

+ Bikely/- mapmyride: Bikely has an online forum for support. Very cool.
- Bikely/+ mapmyride: Doesn't appear to have an "automap" or "snap to roads" feature, you need to draw around curves.

Bikely
Seems like a smaller website that is more community driven. It's got similar features in terms of drawing maps. That is, it lets you edit points, add comments, etc. I think its cue sheet tool works a little better, provided you're looking at a route where the creator took the time to enter cues. The biggest 'plus' for me would be the forum support. The developers actually contribute and respond to requests and questions.
mapmyride
This one, right now, is the one I've chosen to use for my routes... I think anyways. Its cue sheet tools seems little lacking, but it's got a way to discover routes that haven't seen on any other mapping site. It allows you to view an area and show all the public routes (the starting point anyways) that meet certain criteria (e.g., 10 most popular routes between 6 and 50 miles in length). For me, that's a much better way to search because it doesn't require me to know the name of the town I'm in, or going through (I'm new to my area). When looking at someone elses map, or even one you've already done, it lets you edit it and 'save as' --> this way, you don't have to create a whole new map when you're really just modifying a route you already do.
It does have a 'follow road' feature, which is nice, but it doesn't seem to work on a map that's already been saved... just when you're starting from scratch.
It also has a way to log your rides, like bikejournal, which can be helpful. Now I just need to decide if I want to keep using bikejournal or not...
It does have some issues. The interface doesn't seem to be as user friendly. Like I mentioned previously, it does pretty much the same stuff that bikely does, but it seems more cumbersome. Part of the problem is that it seems very cluttered, which is really just a matter of getting adjusted to it I suppose.

You may also want to check out www.RoadBikeRides.com. Members can upload pictures to the rides so you have an idea as to what the ride looks like.
