Do you think I am asking a Fair price for my 1987 Cannondale ?
 

I just got a new bike and a friend is interested in purchasing my old road bike to get started on, since he had been into mountain biking. I am wondering if most of you think $600.00 would be a fair price? There are no problems with the bike and here is a description,
1987 Cannondale road bike 6 speed with Suntour Superbe Pro Componets, Look pedals, Profile aerobars, and a extra set of mavic rims with campy hubs. For those of you that are not familiar with Suntour Superbe Pro it was ranked up there with Dura Ace at that time.
If you agree or disagree let me know, because I dont want to be unfair about the deal.

I think you asking price is way to high. Youre looking at 20 year old technology, Yes at the time it ranked right up there, but remember 20 year old dura ace is no where near as good as some of the cheaper stuff made today.
For 600.00 he could pick up something a lot newer. I would ask no more then 200.00

start at 150, settle for a hundred bucks. heck, trade it to him for a case of beer.

Even in hot used bike markets like Portland and Seattle, an 87 C'Dale isn't a highly valued bike.

If the person is really a friend....why not give them the bike for free?

$600 buys a new Tiagra level bike! Way better than an old C'Dale.

You can find 20 year old bikes with Superbe Pro on them at Goodwill for $9, or at the curb with the trash for free. Something to think about. Yours is worth more, but not much. Especially when your friend gets the road bike bug and sees how old his technology is compared to your nice brifters.

Have you had a look on ebay to compare prices with comparable bicycles? I just took a quick glance and it seems to me that something similar is going for about $100 ... or less.


I've got a 1985 bicycle (not a Cannondale though) with Suntour components, and if I tried to sell it around here, I'd be lucky to get $10 for it.

I would also agree trading for a case of beer.
But if I were you, I'd convert into a fixed gear or single speed. Seems like everyone must own a fixed or single speed bike nowadays.

For $600 you could get a new trek 1000 with components better than what you're selling, and a lighter frame. Try $100 - $150

I believe a brand new Giant OCR3 goes for somewhere around that price too.

Yeah - I would venture that $600 is about an average decent entry level road bike price, and technology has advanced over the past 20 years....

These guys don't realize that you could part that bike out for lots more than the prices they're suggesting. But if you want to be nice, sell your extra wheelset for better than $100 on ebay and give your friend a deal. The frame is the weak link - something like your Superbe Pro RD if in good shape could fetch $40+ by itself.

The above people are right. Too much. But I'd keep it before I'd sell it for $100-150, as a spare bike. Probably worth more to you, than you could sell it for.

Agree with other posters. $600 is WAY too much. I'd say it's worth $200 max at this point. If it is too dear to your heart to sell it for $150-200, just keep it. Convert it to a fixie or just keep it as it is - in a few more decades it might become much more valuable if you've kept it in good condition. :D

The seller will have to wait a loooong time for a buyer, I predict.

i just paid $150 for a 20 yr old miata road bike, not many ppl ask for more than 200, you shud compare prices on craigslist

Suntour Superbe is pretty kool stuff. I'd say $250 if it's in great shape.
