Seat Higher Than Bars, Or Bars Higher than Seat?

I'm just curious to see if most people on the board ride with the seat higher than the bars or visa versa.

Personally, I like to go old fashioned cruiser style with the bars a few inches higher than the seat. Being upright slows me down (not like that matters), but it also gives me easier visibility in front and behind.

I actually had to go look! mine's about even, maybe the bars are a tad higher than the seat.

I like my bars lower than my seat so I can look like a wannabe racer.

Actually I went out to look and 'lo and behold the bars are a bit lower than the seat. Not racer boy lower, but lower nevertheless.

Bars are even to 1 1/2" or so lower, depending upon which bike it is.

What exactly is the "something else" option?LOL

No bars? No seat? Different on different bikes? Different on the same bike depending on the mood?

Handlebars on the seat tube and saddle on the steering tube?
Upside-down drop bars like in the "hood"?
:D

On my summer, fair weather bike, the bars are lower. On my winter and foul weather bike, the bars are higher.

elgalad 07-02-07 10:23 PM

Tops of handlebars about 6" below top of saddle.

Allen 07-02-07 11:49 PM

Depends on the bike.
23mm commuter, about even with saddle
mountain bike, slightly lower
town bike, defiantly higher

Cyclaholic 07-02-07 11:53 PM

tops are above the seat but drops are below, so i had to vote 'other' :D

About 2-3" lower than the seat on two of my three bikes. Can't tell on my third at the moment, because it's partly disassembled...

I go against the grain and have my bars above the saddle

I guess I'm just not flexible but it strains my back when the bar gets low. Comfort is more important to me than staying in line with the bike fashion police

Yeah, I put mine below the saddle on some bikes just so nobody will make fun of me, not because it is the most comfortable for me. Geesh.

Bars higher, thanks.
My "long-distance" bike is a recumbent, bars = 24" or so above the seat.
My shorter-than-long distance bike is a semi-recumbent, bars = 10" above the seat.

I got a work bike in recently for errand use; adjusted for me the seat ended up about 1" above the 4" riser bars. Agony! -I had to order parts to change that right away.
