Hey.. Just want to see what weather conditions everyone rides in. I live in Tucson, Arizona, so I am forced to ride in 110 heat.. Also, how many miles do you average on your rides?

I have lots of disadavantages here. Since it never gets below about 62 or hotter than 90, I don't get to rest from biking all winter, nor do I get to make various fashion statements according to the season - it is shorts year round (grin).

My typical ride is 25-26 miles, usually with a gap in the middle to eat, go to the beach, etc. I often ride further, maybe around 50 miles once a week.

Wow.. You ride a road bike right?

Its pretty nice here...rains sometimes, like this afternoon, but I'm not complaining. Its usually around 75-90F in the summer. Most of my rides are about 30 miles, sometimes I go farther.

Your lucky.. Is a road bike a lot easier for long distances then a mountain bike? I have a mountain bike and it's hard for me to go more then 8 miles at a time (mostly from the heat).

I ride a Bianchi Volpe - sorta a road bike but more for touring I think. Anyway, it has the basic look of a road bike.

I would think a road bike would work better for long distances than a mountain bike. They are probably lighter. THey definitely have tires that will let you go faster.

Can't do much about the heat though!

After a wet spring, we're having a decent summer, mostly warm and sunny. Today and yesterday we had a fair amount of rain and wind, but things were getting pretty dry and it's not like we didn't need it. It was only about 70f today and crummy, but it's supposed to improve this week and get warm and sunny again.

Right now it's pretty good. It's winter, so it's warm rather than hot, with relatively low humidity. The really good thing is that we've had fairly regular rain since February, after two years of basically none during the worst drought in the history of the entire universe.

Today was absolutely beautiful in Columbus, OH. Looked like it might rain, but never did. The heat can get pretty bad here, but it is more humidity that is the problem. We have been getting a lot of those days where it is only 80f or so, but feels worse than 95f.

California normally,is just great cycling weather. Summer it is 70 plus, degrees on the coast and usually sunny. Most of the winter, you ride inland and it is averaging near 70 and usually much of the day is sunny.. Guess, what time of year- you ride where.
This of course is for Southern California. The central coast in summer, even much of the days are overcast.
Was it Walt Whitman said, something like - never had a chillier winter than summer in San Francisco. Well, that is far better than being in a broiler.

I feel your pain Trek6500! I live in Bakersfield California and the heat today was 108 so I stayed out of it but mostly because the air was rated unhealthy. But we usually average about 100 degrees between mid June till mid August during the day, but early morning or evening it drops enough to ride. But this time of the year for about 2-3 weeks the evening temperture will not get below 80 all night, where normally it's comfortable enough to ride.

But as bg4533 said, high humidity is worse because you can't evaporate the sweat off so your miserable even at 80. I use to live in Fremont Ohio and I remember the humidity-but it wasn't nothing compared to Florida- you could not pay me enough to move to Florida!!

I live in Columbia, S.C. (aka "Hell" in July & August) . No breeze, high heat indices (103 - 110ish) and high humidity (that's the killer with this kind of heat). I rode this morning at 7:30 a.m. to beat the heat (well, some anyway). It's hot all the time. LOL

Lets see we just had a thundershower and there is a tornado warning for the southeast side of my city. Winds are forecasted at 40 –60 km. per hour and an estimated high of 30 centigrade. Just looking out my window it looks nice and calm now. Hmmm?

I thought about going for ride tonight, but not to the south side of the city, I was there yesterday! I am in Winnipeg, Manitoba and the forecast has been updated to hail, strong damaging winds, and thundershowers for southern Manitoba and a tornado warning for Winnipeg. Lets see how this all unfolds!

It has been hot and dry here in Albuquerque too. It usually only makes it up to 100 degrees once or twice a year. But we have had six 100 degree days already. We have been getting some of the smoke from the Arizona forest fires here. Even so, I usually manage about 25 miles per day during the week and 40-50 miles on the weekend.

Drew-When I left the house to go on my ride here in Abilene, Tx, it was 107deg. I rode for 4hrs and 38 min. I ran out of water(had a 60oz Hydrapack and 1 water bottle). Got home a little hobbled but none the worse for wear.

Kevin- Ha! Humidity that low is good... Our humidity was 85%, and that was considered a bit low for us.

Anywhoo- Saturday, we had mid- 80s F temperatures. Sundays was a bit higher, at 88 F. It's supposed to get back into the 90s by Tuesday.

I'm not complaining. Winter will be here soon enough, and then I'll be pretty freakin' depressed.

Hah, seriously froze.
Wrecked you really have been getting smoke from the fire? A few of the days here I have woken up to the smell of it and a lot of smoke in my yard. I am pretty sure it is out now from all the rain we have been getting but I am not sure.
Don- wow that's a lot of water, almost 2 liters. I normally drink about a liter on an average ride, but my average rides are only about an hour and a half and only about 7-8 miles. I can't seem to go much farther in the heat.
Koffee- I CANT WAIT FOR WINTER!!! lol since it doesn't snow here and it barely ever gets under 40 during most days, winter is my friend.

Well according to this mornings paper some of the UK was hotter yesterday than Barbados. I know it reached 100F in my parents garden, just a few miles inland from me.
