Anyone Tried Endurox or another recovery mix ?

I'm looking for some help in selecting a good recovery drink or something that would add a little endurance to myself. I eat well for the most part and take a multi-vitamin, but I was thinking that some of this stuff I see out there may actually help me get "over the hump" so the speak.

Sometimes I just don't seem to have the energy to ride like I should. :o

IMO, Endurox tastes like *ss (expensive *ss at that!).

After a hard effort, I typically have 12 oz of orange juice, with a scoop or two of vanilla-flavored whey protein powder (CostCo - $28 for 6 lbs). Sometimes I throw in a scoop (5 g) of creatine powder, and sometimes I throw in 2 g of L-Glutamine (which I find helps improve muscle recovery the next day).

I love drinking HEED while riding. This is some of the best stuff I have ever had. Much better than gatorade. Bleh...

Afterwards I drink a cup of chocolate 1% milk. I am moderately lactose intolerant but a cup is within my tolerance level.

The orange flavor of Endurox is pretty tasty. (The fruit punch is not). I have found it pretty useful for weight-training. Gave me a boost, but nowadays I'm trying to avoid chemical-y stuff, so just have some protein right after a workout.

Hmmm... if you're lacking energy on the ride, you'd be better off eating before the ride and taking that drink during the ride itself.

I'm very happy with Endurox (orange), though I've been exploring some of the hammer stuff recently.

The chief benefit of a recovery drink is:

1) Reduced muscle soreness (because your muscles aren't torn down to replace glycogen stores)
2) Quicker replacement of glycogen stores
3) Reduced hunger after the ride (good if you want to lose weight).

I would not suggest drinking endurox during the ride. It might give you good nutrients, but I think I would gag on endurox if it got hot during a summer bike ride. I'd have to water it down to the point where it wouldn't make any difference if I was using it at all.

with that said, endurox is pretty tasty when its in a cold glass or shaker. I find that it works pretty well for recovery, however, I think the main reason is that it gives everything you need for recovery in one drink. I could probably get all the nutrients from endurox elsewhere, but endurox makes it easier, so I'm more likely to do it and reap the benefits.
