Should I Do It?!? "7.5fx LIVESTRONG"
should I just go all out & get this thing..... trek 7.5 fx livestrong edition
It'd pretty much take away all my extra spend money for the next 2 weeks but I'd have a kick a*$ bike. Or..just get the 7.2fx? I'm fairly new into biking but I want to get more into it w/ exercising/fitness...right now i have a 2005 silver specialized hardrock sport.
thoughts/opinions?

well my opinion is :
im sure a few bucks are going into the Lance armstrong LIVESTRONG fund for testicular cancer /cancer research .. since i was out all last year with testicular cancer i would say if you like the bike and it fits your needs and your happy with the price . GET IT !
( and the bonus is= for us people who have had the unfortunate experience with testicular cancer : this purchase helps not only us who have had it but it can help those who get it in the future .)

Yes do it. You will love those rims! And having a higher-end shifter/derailer/etc is nice.
One thing you might want to think about is the tires. My 7700 FX was similar to this model, and it came with really smooth tires with kevlar linings. They were pretty and all, but frankly they sucked at stopping punctures. Kevlar is great for stopping slashes like glass but straight punctures go right through if the tire is thin.
After three staples, a couple nails, and measy thorn, I broke down and got slightly thicker tires that are better for city streets. I haven't had a flat since.
If you ride in areas where you fear punctures, you might want to talk to the shop and see if you can ge the bike with a different set of tires. I did that with the pedals and they refunded me the difference as the pedals I choose were cheaper.

Two weeks extra spending money is a small price to pay for a kick ass bike... it's like riding it for free 50 weeks out of the next year. That it will help support cancer research is a bonus. Livestrong . org is a good organization. They were there for me when the diagnosis no one wants to hear slapped me in the face.

The extra money will make for a better built bike, with better parts. I spent more than that on a hybrid and don't regret the quality of bike I got. Care for it and it'll last a long time

"what makes the 7.5 so much better than 7.2? is it worth it for just exercise/fitness on bike paths? probably 4-5 days per week."
1. Better fork (Carbon fork vs Steel fork - lighter and less road buzz)
2. Better wheelset
3. Better shifters
4. 9 speed vs 8 speed
5. Chainring will be more forgiving on long hills
6. Stem, seat post combined with other components will make a lighter faster bike.
I paid $719 in 2003 for my7500fx, the forerunner to the 7.5fx and it's only 8 speed and has a steel fork!
This bike is well worth the asking price, in my humble opinion, especially if you ride 4 to 5 times per week. (If you ride that much you will eventually want to ride it on the road or in a charity ride and it is more thatn up to the task.)
If you only ride on weekends, forget it and get the 7.2fx.
1. Better fork (Carbon fork vs Steel fork - lighter and less road buzz)
2. Better wheelset
3. Better shifters
4. 9 speed vs 8 speed
5. Chainring will be more forgiving on long hills
6. Stem, seat post combined with other components will make a lighter faster bike.
