Cleaing Gum off a Bike

I posted this in another thread about general cleaning, bbut since there aren't any responses I figured I'd start a new thread.

What's the best way to clean gum off of your bike?

Ran over a huge wad of gum over the weekend and it got in everything.
Wrapped around both hubs, spokes on both wheels, on my brakes, frame pum, even got on my saddle bag!

WD-40 is what I would normally suggest for gum... but that's hell for the bike also...

try some non-organic oil? gum melts when exposed to oil.

Bug and tar remover from the auto parts store.

Put it in the freezer...

Thanks for all the suggestions. I decided to go with the bug and tar remover, figuring it's formulated to be safe for the finish on your car, so should be one of the safest ones for the finish on the bike.

I can't beleive how bad it got in there, though. Everytime I thought I was done, I found another little spot buried on the bike that had gum on it.

Renewing an old thread here after a search. I was Gummed last night!

Is the Tar and bug remover save on rubber? My tires have it on them also.

For gum or any other stuck on ,or hard to remove, stuff nothing
beats Avon's "skin so soft" bath oil. No kidding. The oils in that
stuff softens the gunk and get under it to slide it right off!

Just take your time and let penetrate and whatever is stuck
will slide right off. The best part is that it will not harm paint
even in direct sunlight!:thumb::thumb:

any of the oil based stuff, like dissolve it will work fine, or good ole wd-40

Every single bike that left the shop where I worked was wiped down with WD-40 to remove the mechanic's fingerprints. It does no harm and makes it smell good.

Bumping this because I am cleaning a massive blob of gum off my bike. Going to give the WD-40 ago but wasn't sure till I found this thread!

Thanks!
