Bike Locks?

Alright, I did a search for not long so dont blame me.

But is there a collection of posts/threads that relate to bike locks?

I just got a new bike (Specialized Allez Sport), and I need to be able to lock it safely without having to worry too much, Im going to be going to university soon, Dal in halifax, so I need to be able to lock it in my room, and if I were to ride it in the city.

Whats the best Lock money can buy?, and what are some good recommendations for things that are readily available.

What about the kryptonite fagetaboutit locks?

In all honesty please try searching again. This comes up very often and has been answered many times. Here are some threads to get you started.

EDIT: For some reason the search results link I've posted refuses to work. Try a search on 'sold secure ART'.

The krypto U or chain (fagheddaboutit) are excellent and also the most expensive. They both retail for around $100-$120 CAD.

If you're going to be leaving it locked up around outside, component theft is also a serious concern. If I were you, i'd source a beaterish singlespeed to get around campus. Leaving a specialized allez sport locked around anywhere for a while on campus is literally asking for it.

Lowes (home improvement store) sells a thick steel eyelet with a steel ring through the end. Perfect for screwing into a stud indoors and won't leave a big hole. Keeps your room mates drinking buddies from 'borrowing' it when your gone. I would get that Onguard axle\seatpost set ($60) and a Krypto chain with disc lock ($89)(wear it around your waist when riding).

that reminds me of that Belgium? saying... if you have a 10 lbs bike you need a 30 lbs lock, 30 lbs bike and you need 10 lbs lock, but if you have a 40lbs bike, no one will take it. Or something along those lines.

NY fahgeddaboutit U-lock is so damn heavy... nearly doubles the weight of my bianchi.

I recommend the mini along with either a heavy chain or the kryptonite cables for your front tire and saddle.

Those are the best. Even those aren't theft-proof.

A Fahgettaboudit u-lock all by itself will deter most thieves. So will a fahgettaboudit chain, all by itself. If you want maximum protection, using a Fahgettaboudit u-lock in combination with a fahgettaboudit chain will stop almost bike thief in his tracks. A determined professional equipped with the right tools and enough time won't be deterred, but your bike would really have to be worth the effort, and the right thief would have to come upon your bike in the first place. There's almost a 100% probability that your bike won't be stolen with these two locks in place, though, and a very high probability that it won't be stolen using just one or the other.

If you search using the word "kryptonite", you will find ten or fifteen threads from the past month.

Pitlocks, Kryptonite U-lock and chain. You'll only buy it once in several years.

Lock it up indoors to the wall. Dorm door locks = NO LOCK.
