Bike Rack for a New Beetle

Luckily I'm able to get one road bike into the back of my car when i drop the seats. There will be times i'll be traveling with 2 bikes... anyone with a New Beetle with a bike rack that doesn't mark up the car too much and seems safe for the bikes?

Be careful when you're looking-VW stuff is expensive. I think that they make the rails, and you can attach anything to those rails. I've only seen bikes on Golfs, etc., with flat roofs.

edit: they make them:

Dunno, beetles are strange shaped so you may be looking at roof racks ...did you check newbeetleforums?
Usually pretty helpful.

A hitch would be a good option

+1, that's what I would do/did.
Albeit a hitch would detract from the overall look of the bug...imho

roof: hard to reach, easy to damage roof, easy to forget about bike, and its surprisingly noisy at speed
trunk: looks floppy, hard not to damage car or bike...but cheap
hitch: secure, not cheap, doesn't look so good on some cars

Best thing (if you rarely need to transport more than one bike) would be to do none of the above and let someone else drive when you need to transport multiple bikes.

I was able to get two bikes in my new beetle if I removed all of the wheels.

I also had a Thule roof rack. My husband and I have light road bikes, so getting the bikes on the rack wasn't hard. I never forgot the bikes were up there because I also had a moonroof and could see the bike the entire time.

I'm no expert on Bugs, but I seem to remember them having their license plate on the bumper. Any chance of hiding the hitch receiver behind the plate? They do make plate mounts that move out of the way when the hitch is in use.

I don't think that would work

I've seen these on Prius (apparently any hitch voids its warranty so owners use this)..this one's for the beetle

Exactly what I've been looking for! I'd hate to see my car scratched again when I get it repainted.
