trying to pick rollers Help
 

My riding buddy is looking for a set of rollers to travel with thru the winter. Neither of us have used them very much. What are important things that I should look for.

Those should do you quite well. . .I like the legs with rubber ends, that will keep them from walking.

Unlike trainers, I don't think there is a big difference -- the technology in rollers is about as simple as can be. You might find some difference in roller diameter, but gearing on your bike will take up the slack there.

The other thing you might look at is if the rollers have some sort of "dish" or concavity to 'em. That helps you stay on the things, but also somewhat defeats one of the better aspects of rollers as a training device. You'll quickly see just how efficient a rider you are by how well you can stay on them -- your balance and straight line tracking will improve dramatically.

If you don't already know -- set them up next to a wall so you can't fall off one side. Make sure you've got some sort of a step stool on the other side, it's an extra 6 or 8 inches to the ground! Oh, and be ready to sweat like a pig. . .

thanks for the advice. I have a trainer love it for cold dark mornings when I might not ride otherwise.

I rode rollers back in college (borrowed them from a dorm mate). I hung a string with a weight on the end of it from the ceiling right in front of my face so I could watch TV. I didn't need to look down at all, if the string drifted in front on an eye, I knew I was drifting.
