Pearl Izumi gloves

Recently, I can't seem to get a season's worth of riding out of gloves made by Pearl Izumi. Is it just me, or has their products gone down hill big time over the last couple of years?

Gloves are meh... Their Gel-Lite full finger gloves came apart after 1/2 a year. The half finger gloves are still doing okay except the gel padding is pretty much gone.

My best pairs of gloves are old ones that were super cheap. I have a great pair of Nashbar gel gloves that they stopped making

I've been glove shopping all summer and I don't like what's offered anywhere, and they are so expensive!

I had one pair and never again. I think they are made for liteweight purposes which doesn't help durability.

One thing I've noticed is tha the Ultrasensor shorts have gone up from $70 to $90 since I boughtmy last pair a bit over a year ago. I paid the $100 (after tax) and totally unhappy with the new design. I've heard others that like it but not good at all for my weight. They removed most of the padding!

I found the durability of the PI White Lines disappointing. I've been happiest with Specialized.

PI have lifetime warranties. Mine wore out (prematurely) after half a year. I sent them to their cust. service and they sent me a new pair.

This current one is about a year old, and it looks like it's gonna wear out in a few months. When it does, I'm gonna get a pair of Adidas, I heard good things about them.

I just bought a pair...

I liked them because they were so light.

Me too. I haven't even worn them yet. (sigh) Maybe I could return them.

I am still using a pair of full finger PI gel-lite gloves from 2003. Still in good condition, although some of the gel has leaked out. Nice elastic wrist cuff, high quality materials. I purchased a pair of PI gloves with the same model name in Fall, 2006. They are not nearly as nice as my old ones, in design and in quality of materials. It looked like they tried to cut down the cost of the gloves by using cheaper materials and eliminating the wrist cuff. So I went back to using the old gloves.

My pair of PI gel-lites lasted 4 months. I went to specialized bg sports and have been happy ever since.

My second pair is already falling apart. I got them when my first pair fell apart. Don't think I'll exchange them again although I could.

That's disappointing. I just ordered a pair yesterday.

What about Planet Bike gloves?

When I see a good sale, I try to buy a few pairs. If I can get them fur about fifteen dollars I'm happy with that. I used them for about a year and when they begin to deteriorate, I toss them. Some of them last six months. Others will last a couple years.

I bought a pair of these "Pearl Izumi Mens Gel Vent Pro" in June just before going on a tour. Seven days in, I found that the "Gel" inserts had bruised my palms to the extent that it was more comfortable riding without them. The gel pads appear to be made of very firm, red, rubber-like material and definitely do not "flow" to adjust to the shape of your hands. It is beyond me how they can be describes as "Gel" at all.Anyway, they are now to be found at the bottom of a waste basket in central France.
