    coolest helmet

    "coolest" as in most well-ventilated.

i've been searching past threads on this and find comment here and there about models that have good ventilation. however, i haven't seen a thread that ranks or compares that aspect between models.

i have a bell ukon and its terribly hot. in your experience, what make/model kept your noggin the coolest?

the model is the "Animas". Basically a multivent aero style lid. Pretty cool to wear, but i have to be careful, because me bald noggin burns easy, and i have had skin cancer lesions removed already. (hence the Tilley hat now when cruising around).

To protect your severely bald head against the sun, try wearing one of these. It's not only good protection agains the sun but it also serves as a sweatband.

Bell Sweep R and Ghisallo. Giro Atmos and Monza. I bought the Sweep R to replace my Trek Interval and the additional cooling was worth it. They all keep you safe but the more expensive models generally do it with less material and more venting. I have heard that the less expensive Bell Citi has good ventilation. You can read reviews at roadbikereview.com and in consumer reports.

    That's easy - no helmet.

Try it, you might like it.
And you're not exactly losing a huge amount of crash protection anyway.

    Learn from this kids!
This is an example of what kind of advices you are starting to give after banging the head several times without a helmet.

The people who must've banged their heads hard on something (their mommy dropped them in their childhood?) are the ones who do not understand basic statistic and make unproved claims about the great powers of a stupid piece of styrofoam that has not been shown to make ANY difference in an accident. Funny how people who are most likely to wear a helmet are a bunch of brainless morons who don't need head protection anyway due to the lack of anything inside their strong thick skulls.

chepy, I know you're scared right now and you don't feel like talking, but it's okay, you're safe now. I'm detective Stabler and this is my partner Olivia. W need to ask you some important questions to you, okay?

Where did the styrofoam touch you, chephy? That's alright, you don't have to be ashamed, I promised no one else needs to know about this. Okay, he touched you there. Now, how long has this been going on? Uh-hmm, okay. Now chephy, we have reasons to believe that you're not the only child that styrofoam have molested. Has he ever told you about any other kids? Has ever bragged to you about them?

You did a very good job, chephy! You're a strong kid. I'm gonna leave you know, OK? There will be a policeman outside the door guarding you, OK? If there is anything else, ANYTHING that you remember about the attacks, just give me a call. I promise you we'll take down this styrofoam summama***** so he won't hurt anyone else. Now get some sleep!

А nap would be welcome actually. And pie more than welcome.

However, this is not "just kidding around". It's an old flamewar, and if you probed the helmet nazis further, you'd indeed see that they are absolutely rabid about their beliefs, viciously attacking any attempt at actual discussion of scientific evidence on the matter. Religious zealots who try to force their religion on you and curse you if you don't accept it (or, god forbid, question it in public and plant a seed of doubt in the mind of others) don't sit very well with me. (People who just wear helmets are all right of course, but we're not talking about them now.)

I know, I should stop biting that bait.

Yes, yes, detective. I'll answer all your questions, don't worry. Oh, never mind these people in white coats. They are nice people. They are helping with the investigation... yes, they'll just give a little injection and everything is going to be okay. It'll help you think clearer.. No detective, it's not wise to.. HEY! GET HIM IN A STRAIGHTJACKET!

Catlike Kompact or Whisper... But they are pretty pricey... I have a Giro Xen which has a decent amount of ventilation, and a Catlike Kompact which has lots too.

Helmet saved my head at least twice. But for sure, wearing a helmet will NOT make you smarter.

Over here we have MET helmets but apparantly- they are not sold in the US. This was the best ventilated helmet I have ever found but yesterday I bought a Rudy Project Kontact. That is as good as the MET.

However- This year I climbed Mont Ventoux and it was hot. Sweat running in the eyes was a problem so I put a Bandana on under the helmet. Kept the sweat away from the face and I think kept the helmet cooler.

I quite like my Specialized Chamonix Medium. Buying the black one may have been an error, but my head doesn't get terribly hot.

I bought a Specialized Decibel after the red one in my avatar gave its life for mine in a crash. I'm delighted with the Decibel. It's really something when the noggin feels cooler than the rest of you. I'm actually shopping for one that's less ventilated for winter riding.
My two favorite things in life are libraries and bicycles. They both move people forward without wasting anything.

Lucky for me, I work at a library and bike to work.

Coolest, as both in cool looking and ventilated, go with Bell Sweep XC.. They have a Sweep R version, which looks nerdish. XC version is just like R but different colors and a visor. Totally different look.

I have a black carbon Sweep XC. $99 on eBay, brand new. It's excellent on ventilation. I still wear a skull cam, du rag, which I wet on long rides. The effect of both keeps me going in high temps and humidity.

Be careful with color selection. Black carbon is cool looking, but when climbing on the sun and your speeds go down to 10 mph, it's very hot. White rags and white helmet will reflect sun.

By the way, rag or hat instead of helmet is not a cool looking outfit at all. Especially a blue one. Helmet is a perfect accessory to make you look cool. The only thing is that it must be right color and right shape.

I tested Sweep XC black carbon, the other guy tested red one. Both are good in cooling cool on you. Combine with tight pants and muscle shirt to look even cooler.

Cops look cool!! Be it riot gear or motor bike. Avoid sissy flower jersey and helmet look and smile like in someone's avatar in here, you'll look cool too.
