which is the best website
I just started biking, and would like to order certain things online for cost saving reasons. Bike chain, seats, bike stand, tires. What site would you recommend for customer satisfaction and good prices.

www.pricepoint.com
www.nashbar.com www.performancebike.com www.jensonusa.com there are many others as well. |
There are tons of online mail order sites. If you do a search of the forums, you'll find just as many threads about them and people's opinions of them.
My favorites include www.jensonusa.com and www.performancebike.com. Jenson usually has the best price around, and Performance has a larger selection with ok prices on most things. I've found www.supergo.com to be way over-priced in most cases. They also lack anything resembling a selection for most items. I've had ok luck with www.pricepoint.com, though I've heard some bad things about them as well from other people. I put most of my mail-order money through jensonusa and performancebike.com. -Moab |
It really depends, Nashbar.com and performancebicycle.com have by far the best selection. I always check them both they are both better for certain things. supergo is pretty good, small selection though. I have never used jensenusa.com either.

Hi Benito, I think a good site is www.coloradocyclist.com

If the mail order route is your choice I reccomend www.phattire.com Angelo is a class act and deserves the buisness. That and he can get just about anything. However I also highly reccomend supporting your LBS whenever possible.

A note: There are a few things I wouldn't buy online. One of these is wheels. I've had too many bad experiences with factory built wheels. An option would be to bring them in to the LBS to get them tensioned and trued, but you still don't always know what you are getting. I finally threw down the cash on a wheel built by the LBS and couldn't be happier. It was tensioned/trued correctly, I knew exactly what it was built with, and I trust the guys that built it. Not only that, but if the thing had failed on me I would have someone to go back to - someone who I knew would fix things.

You have got to be kidding with that phattire.com. That place looks shady, just the fact that they use yahoo templates and billing is enough to scare me away. I clicked on saddles and there were none. Priority shipping also sucks. Stick with a big name, it is better to support lbs and smaller comanies when you have to order do it with performance bike or nashbar. They have been around for a long long time and wil be around for a long time.

I don't know where you are located, but I would suggest a visit to 1 or 2 LBS (local bike shops). Sometimes, once you add the shipping costs, there little or no price advantage of those mail-order shops, unless you have a large order.
Besides, it's always nice to know which local shops have the largest inventory, the best prices, the best advice, the best repair persons... |
you can find some decent deals on pedals, jerseys, and such on ebay - just make sure you check out seller's history and be sure of what you are buying. Plenty of online sites to check prices for identical or comparable items.

Originally posted by RonH I have to second that. Before ordering online check with a few bike shops. If you don't support them they may not be here tomorrow. You never know when you might need their help. |
