Racing Question
I didn't see a "racing" forum, so I thought this might be the best place for my post.
Can someone explain the category system for me? I looked into getting a license for the next season and on USA Cycling they want to sell me a cat 5. I've never raced before, so this is fine, but how do you move up? Do you gain points and eventually apply for the next category or what?
Thanks
James

There is a racing sub forum under road cycling.
To move from Cat 5 to 4 I'm pretty sure it's not based on points, just the number of races you've completed.

^^ Correct.
Cat 5 is where you--and everyone else--will start. 10 mass start races gets you to Cat 4. From there is points based on races, your place at the finish, and the group you compete against.
You can use day license for $10 to try racing. Just show up to the race, fill out a few forms, and pay an extra $10 to race with the Cat 5 group. This is sometimes called the 'Citizen' race, since nearly anybody ca show up and race.
