Whens the best time to buy from an LBS?
I'm looking to pick up a cheap road bike for myself ( a 205lb clyde). I really want to get a good fit and a good price on one. When is best time to buy from an LBS?

Never! Take the money you save from buying online. Buy a Park tool kit. Build it yourself. Cut out the middle man and get closer with how the new extension of your body works.

Normally, it would be just after the new model year comes out, or toward the start of the winter months. But lots of bike prices are increasing for the 2009 models, so the 2008 models may not be so heavily discounted.

after the new models come out and during the slow part of the year. If you ask a LBS they will tell you when they tend to close out stuff. Hopefully you dont want a bike sized for an average person as those usually go fast.

The bad thing is, because they are discounted, yer tempted to get the one not your size, not the color u prefer, but will have to live with the next 10 years.

Bad shops will hang onto aging product hoping to turn a profit on it, but good shops wont do that and will cut their losses and get new product that will sell fast and for a profit.

Most LBS will treat you right. They don't make a whole lot on bikes. Assessories and repairs is their bread and butter.
At 250 your going to need a good rear wheel. Ask the shop about that.

Yeah, I would say when the new model year comes out, but in my experience, I have gotten the best deals in the winter time when the shop is slow. Plus, you can get to know the shop staff (don't forget to bring in beers if it's a local shop, and they cut you a great deal).
