Please help me with my vacation plans.

..or to be real specific, my LACK of vacation plans.

I have 3 weeks starting with the last week in January. My first choice was Japan, but with
the dollar in the pits, that seems out of my budget.

My second idea was a cycling tour of Ireland. I'm thinking Jan-Feb is a bit too cold.
    (does it snow in Ireland?)

But I'm still looking for an interesting tour. My skill level is moderate so 30 day unsupported
treks through the outback is a bit out of my league.

I'll take suggestions, ANY suggestions! Domestic or international. My budget is $3-5k but
I always prefer to spend less. Come to think of it. $3k is my upper limit unless it is a life
changing trip, then I'll go for $5k. Sorry to sound cheap, but I'm not rich.

Someone suggested Vietnam recently, I'm still looking.

New Zealand would be my top choice, but it's a budget buster. Argentina wouldn't be bad, either. Corsica, Sardinia, and Sicily would be a delightful trio, but again, expensive.

For a cycling vacation, Martinique. An old French colony with a big cycling culture in the Caribbean.
    Bikes use brakes to stop.

If your bike has breaks, don't ride it.

This year I went to France. To be Frank- I went to France, within spitting distance of Mont. Ventoux so I could ride it. Hoping to go back next year again but for a cycling Holiday- Just go anywhere in France and ride from a base hotel or area. If you don't mind arranging things yourself- Then hire a carvan for the period you want and arrange your own Transport. Link below to one site I am thinking of- right at the base of Ventoux

    http://www.campings-vaucluse.com/cam...astory/f1.html

From this link you can get back to The home page but other good riding areas are the Dourdoigne and Ardeche regions.

NZ is an interesting idea but the plane ticket may kill me. Still looking at options.
Costa Rica may also be an idea, still researching that one.

    Still looking.....

    edit:

$2500 for cheap seats to NZ (OUCH!) That's probably a great price but it's still
    outta my range. (*cry*)
Do a self supported tour of the southern end of the Underground Railroad route. Start from home or in the Panhandle and ride over to the start.

Or you could do some of the Southern Tier.

Or combine the two and do Southern Tier to Mobile then north.

Self supported isn't hard, it can be very cheap and you'll have experiences that will last your whole life. If you do a one-way rental car, it's way easier than trying to fly...especially with a bike. A thousand miles by bike in 3 weeks isn't too hard, even when carrying all your stuff.

oh, just put your passport back in your drawer & come to WV. Explore Canaan Valley, trip down the road to Slatyfork, and check out a multitude of great trails all over the State Park system.

What about south Florida. Those of us in the frozen north would die for three weeks there right now. Or southern California?

I can't recommend Ireland in January/February. It might not snow, but it would very probably be very cold and grey.
