I am just starting out with road cycling, and I want to get a bike, but I am so confused about what to buy.

How do I select well, and can I get some advice on what are good bikes for the beginer. I do wish to eventually enter road races, and potentially triathalons. Not looking for touring though.

I noticed the Cannodale R600. I am a fan of Cannondale since I got my moutain bike, but I really am completely novice...I didn't choose the mountain bike, I won it so I have never been through the selection process for a good bike before.

Budget, of course, is somewhat of an issue. I don't think that at my stage and experience level it would be smart for me to spend more than $1,200 to $1,500.

Learn about bike fit, and go to a shops that knows about fitting a bike to your body. Start by doing a search on this forum regarding bike fitting - you'll find a bunch of great information. When you feel comfortable regarding fit, begin by test riding as many bikes as you are able.

There are some great scoots out there in your price range. Find one that fits you and your style of riding, and then snap it up. Then, of course, post of pic here!

I was wanting to spend up to $2000 on a bike a month ago and test rode some. After riding some and learning more about all the different bikes and the different equipment I decided to buy something used to get my feet wet...cause I realized I didn't know sh*t..lol..I figured I had to learn how to take care of the equipment and know how to ride correctly. I Looked in the local ads for a few weeks and bought a '99 Specialized Allez Sport (came with Ultegra that year) the other day for $325..The bike was rarely used and looks new as well as being a great fit for me! Now I'm starting to do my own maintenence and getting ready to go to clipless pedals. Hoping by mid next year I will be ready to get a new bike in the price range I was shooting for. Also look thru the archives at the older posts and read comments on bike preferences and fits...You'll find out that most bikes are really good, it really depends on what fits you best and what equipment you want. Ride a lot of frieds bikes. Think about what you will want to do with the bike. (e.g. paved road, dirt road, no road ...
