Its a mighty fine thing. % grand seems a bit steep tho. Unless its VERY rare - like less than 10 about.

Welcome to the grand world of bicycle collecting, fellows. It is easy to get hooked - I sure am.

The Bowden Spacelander is one of the neatest of the Space-age era bicycles. It is also the most valuable. There are only 61 known in existance. It was manufactured only for one year; 1964.

If you want a Space-age design bike at a more reasonable price, look at some of the early 1950's bikes made by Murray such as the Cosmic Flyer, Sonic Flight, Hiawatha, and others. Also see the Sears Spaceliner made by Murray in the early 1960's (mostly 1963 and 1964).

The Murray Space-agers cost from several hundred dollars and top our at around $1,200; still much less than the Bowden Spacelander which cost in the tens of thousands of dollars.

I saw that bike. I think it settled at $5250. Neat bike. Way out of my range though but definitely neat. Mike, thanks for the detail about space race bikes. Haven't seen any of them but if 1 pops up at a garage sale, I'll pounce.

As far as collecting I passed on a Raleigh Clubman that went for 81$ and I'm regretting it. Oh well.

At around, $5,000 the Bowden Spacelander on E-bay was a steal! I think that the poor timing of the auction kept the price low. Either that, or the high-paying Bowden collectors figured out it was a fake.

The Bowden Spacelander was reproduced in the 1990's and sold for over $5,000 as a reproduction.
