8 weeks and 0 miles after breaking my arm, I was back on a bike today. And let's just say it was evident that I hadn't ridden a bike in 8 weeks.
To start off, I only planned on a 10 mile (with a lunch stop at 9 miles) route since I'd been out so long. It was great to be back out on the open road with the wind in my face and I can't wait to get back in to the shape that I was in riding-wise before the break. However, today I noticed how I was downshifting in places where I hadn't before, standing in places I used to not and working harder than before. But that was to be expected.
The magnet on my computer had been knocked out of line and I didn't bother realigning it before going, but I'd say I probably averaged about 13 mph as opposed to the 16ish I averaged on the same route before the injury. But that still couldn't get my spirits down since it was just great to be back on a bike at all.
Well, that's it for my ride today. I didn't have my camera to take pictures with, but I'll post a couple of pictures that I took a while back before I broke my arm on one of the roads that I rode today:
Those are both taken from the same location, just slightly different angles. That brown thing is a railroad track bridge, which I think just looks amazing right there.
