Brooks saddle on Trek Pure?
 

I recently purchased a Trek Pure Sport. I've been reading about how comfortable the Brooks saddles are (one they get broken in). I'm looking at the Brooks B67, as their site recommends these for those who are sitting more upright. The Trek can be seen at http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes...ure/puresport/

I guess I'm looking for replies from those of you who have tried a Brooks saddle on a bike with a more upright sitting position. Would it be a good match for this bike, or are the Brooks saddles really intended for bikes with a more aggressive, forward position?

At the same time, some of the modern padded tractor saddles that come on upright bikes are pretty darn comfortable. I've got a Schwinn 7 speed cruiser with a big padded saddle and it might actually be more comfortable than my old B-67 I had on a cruiser for years.

It's a tossup, I'd get the Brooks for sure if you are interested in pimping your ride.

By my sig, you can see my bias. But I also agree with Beko that a stock cruiser saddle can be nice. Just about any will do if your rides are short, say, under 35 miles.

B66/67/68 and 72/73 for upright bikes (road modified MTB's, classic 3-speeds and cruisers)
B17/Flyer for semi-upright (relaxed geometry road bikes, road modified MTB's, etc.)
Team Pro/$wallow for race type.

There is considerable cross-over use between the first two categories. Pros and Swallows are quite specialized for aggressive riding. They can realy pimp a retro race bike.

ride a Brooks 17 on a trek fx3 hybrid.....good from the getgo....had problems with chafing...lbs help me try about 4 saddles....finally tried the brooks...

Don't forget a nice pair of padded shorts.

jcm, one reason I'm looking at the Brooks is because I someday envision myself doing some longer rides. The stock saddle on the Trek isn't a bad one. Once I get my trainer, I'll be able to put some quality time on the saddle.

I ride fairly upright on a Brooks B17 on a Cannondale Trekking I use for commuting and also use a "Swift" on my summer road bike. I use a suspension seat-post so didn't really need the big springs.

I found the first two weeks break-in to be pretty tough but am now VERY comfortable in both. I wasn't sure if I needed the B17 narrow version at first as I had some pain at the top of my thighs but after a while this went away.

I read a few posts here about dealers that give a 6 months money back guarantee - you can't go wrong with that.

I've never liked Bontrager saddles fwiw. I'd say that Brooks is a good investment.

You can always stop into a specialized dealer and sit on their ass-o-meter. That will give you an idea of how wide your sit bones are and thus how big of a saddle you need to buy.
