Shipping a bike to Puerto Rico

    Hi All,

Thanks in advance. I'm moving soon to San Juan, Puerto Rico from Raleigh, NC. I just got a new Trek MTB about 3 months ago and I am in love with it. It was pretty expensive for my budget, about $1000.

I really want to take it with me. I could sell it and get a new bike once I'm there, but I would really lose out on resale value.

Is shipping it there a good option? Does anybody know the how, who, or anything else about this?

    Thanks again.

Why not buy hard case and consign it with your mover.

Hardcase with your mover is the best bet.....other alternatives are to ship it with a trucker LTL freight, but pickup coordination will be cumbersome, doable certainly, but cumbersome.....Only way it can go UPS is via 2 day air.......open your wallet and say goodbye to the contents.

Unfortunately my move is a little less "structured" than the hardcase/mover option. I'm quitting my job and taking two suitcases... I hate to make my bike sit in my parent's garage until I return someday.

Is ebay a good place to search for a hardcase? are used hardcases feasible?

    Thanks for your help!

You don't need a hardcase with a mover. Just go back to the LBS and have them pack in a box, or just get the box and do it yourself.
    Bikes use brakes to stop.

If your bike has breaks, don't ride it.
