Campagnolo Crank with shimano...everything?

Hi-
I just picked up an '07 Scott CR1 Team bike that has all Shimano 105 components. Love the bike, but with the deal I got, I can afford to upgrade the wheelset and some components.

One upgrade I would like is to put a compact crankset on this bike. This may be a stupid question, but could I put a campagnolo crank on it and leave the rest as Shimano? Is the spacing/teeth similar or the same?
I found a great deal on a campagnolo centaur carbon compact crank at nashbar and I'm just wondering if this is a possibility.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

It's a sin, but mechanically a sound idea.

I've been using a Mirage 9-speed crank with 8-speed Shimano 600 derailleurs (and Sora shifters). It's flawless. Go for it, and damn the fashion police, I say!

I had a Veloce 9-speed crank/BB on my old RX100-equipped 8-speed roadie.

Worked fine.

You need to change the bottom bracket, too, right? Aren't the BB tapers incompatible?
