Anyone watch the last Simpsons?

Yesterdays in the Simpsons they made fun of misanthrope professor who rides a recumbant. I ride a folding bike and can relate to the misanthrope feelings they were poking fun of in the show.

Is the general perception of all cyclists as such types true? I am amazed they have such clever writers who know more about the personalities of niche enthusiasts then I know myself..

Haha, well, it certainly rings true of the grumpy old "bent" rider who screamed at me last summer. He was patiently waiting his turn in line (taking the lane needlessly, as misanthropes are prone to doing ) and I filtered past him on the right. This apparently was not ok with him and he loudly let me have his opinion. When I then slowly turned right at the stop sign without stopping (perfectly legal on a bike in Idaho), he screamed at me again.

What a grump!!!

All in all, however, most folks I have met on bikes have actually been more positive toward humanity than usual.

I also take the lane needlessly, mainly because I have a very low confidence in the ability of drivers to see me. Keep in mind I just picked up cycling this year and I do ride with a good mirror.

Dude was on a bent. Seemed a good fit, too.

Yeah, no offense intended.....that was more tounge-in-cheek than substantive.

I ride and race a recumbent and don't have any problems with upright riders or others poking fun at me because I ride one of those kind of bikes. Most road riders at events usually gather around the bike and gawk wanting to know how heavy it is and if it has an engine in it. They always comment on the rate of speed at which I passed their group. yeah there are dorky looking recumbents made too. Not all recumbents are made for just leisure riding.

I ride this bike.

The term Batmobile springs to mind.

The point was, it wasn't needed. There's a time when it's a good idea, and a time when you're just wasting your own minutes.

Lol @ recumbents. Time to man up.

Shee-it, I don't even ride a bent, but comments like that make me want to buy one just so I can dust you in a race and then LOL at your tiny boy-sized dick.
