My first bicycle computer was a CCM. Cheap stuff that froze to death as I started cycling in the winter.

My second bicycle computer was a Schwinn. Not bad quality, although the buttons are hard to press at times. Sensor did not work too well sometimes. Had to readjust regularly. It was stolen together with the bike.

My third bicycle computer was also Schwinn. The issues are almost the same. I took the computer, bracket and sensor out and headed to my home country, only to find out that I forgot the magnet. So I wrote to my housemate to have it sent to me. 4 months passed and no word. Maybe it got stuck inside the aircraft fuselage. It finally arrived to the destination 2 months later. But I have already left.

So in the meantime I decided to invest in something better for my fourth, a Vetta RT33. I always thought less features for the same price means better quality, right? Well, I can't tell the difference. The reading did work well even at -20°C, no skips or anything. One caveat is the thin wire - which I snapped for some obscure reason.

I browsed BF around and some people were saying how good the db4LW is for its price. I got the wireless version. I opened up and immediately the computer started reading 99.9Kph. I moved to another room, which it then promptly dropped back to 0Kph. Fine, maybe I can live with avoiding interference. But then when I tested it by wiggling the magnet over its sensor, the computer simply didn't respond. I returned it the next day. That, I guess, was my four-and-a-half-th version.

Today I received my fifth, Cateye Enduro 8, a discontinued model I got from eBay. I haven't got a chance to install it but the sensor was very responsive. It even has a dual-trip distance meter, very useful for touring. I only wished it turns itself off more quickly, rather than waiting an hour. But it looks tough, the name sounds tough, indeed I wish it can Eduro a few years of abuse. Particularly from my touch of death.

All 5.5 computers were acquired and lost in the span of just 2.5 years. Is it just me, or do you any of you guys or gals go through computers like that?

Durability may have nothing to do with it. I'll just sink my whole bike under Lake Erie one day.

I should phone Guinness.

I had the same experience with the db4LW. It was good for my self esteem , but I found it very frustrating. The non-wireless model works fine though.

On a related note, I am looking for a replacement kit for the cateye enduro 2. I need a new bracket and sensor. Does anyone know where I could find one for sale in the Toronto area?
