Ebay seller fangjoe1688
Just curious what anyone thinks... I was looking at a bike from this seller, and seriously considering placing a bid. At one point, about 12 hours before the end of auction, the listing is pulled. One thing I noticed about this seller's other auctions is that any item with multiple bids has a high bidder with a username consisting of a letter, three asterisks, and another letter. So, a user g***f, or d***k has the high bid on multiple listings, and a history of doing so, yet if you check the seller's feedback no username of this type has ever won an auction.
I suppose it's just an example of crass shill bidding. Maybe nobody cares. I was semi-excited about the possibility of getting that bike, though. Tough crap for me.

It is possible he was doing shill biding since he pulled the auction but the astrics names are done to protect the buyers privacy. Its a standard option when you sell something on ebay. Apparently somewhere there was a problem with other sellers contact buyers of other auctions so they implimented the privacy option.

the astericks are not the actual username. Like said it is to protect their identity to other people who try to contact them other then the seller.

This is an ebay policy when the bidding amount reaches a certain level. Seller prolly yanked the auction because he sold it direct to a local buyer (then you don't have to pay Ebay selling fees)

Oh, wait, that's not allowed, because my bid is a legally binding contract.

In Australia, eBay uses Bidder1, Bidder2, Bidder3, etc, to hide the names. I think the threshhold is around $200. The seller and an individual bidder can see the name only of that bidder.
But sellers who yank an item before an auction has run its course deserve some sort of negative feedback on them. BlueOrder is quite right in pointing out this anomoly. It's like a real estate agent, in the middle of the actual auction of a house, suddenly telling everyone it's off the market because a private sale has been made behind the scenes.
But all said and done, eBay has been a pretty good outlet for me (or should that be inlet because I am only a buyer?) because of the cheap prices and the fact I live in a place remote from regular bike shops.
