Like I said in the other thread, I think you can turn off the pics on signatures.

Had to vote yes on this one, but with all due respect to those with Dial-up service. I like seeing all the pictures and "glimpses" at personality along with a post.

I am going to remove the signatures for guests. I too find them annoying when I am looking for specific content. Most guests are looking for information, they are not interested in seeing Chi's cow in his sig

As a registered member, you can turn off signatures in your User CP. To do so, click on "Options" and look for "Post elements". Un-check what you don't want to see.

Actually, we have 1000GB of available bandwidth. So bandwidth will no longer be an issue. If you are on a dial-up account or feel the forums slow down when viewing threads, I would turn off avatars and signatures in your User CP.

I'll write up some rules about signatures soon. I personally don't mind small images in sigs, as long as they don't break any of the community guidelines in content.

I think, as you've said in another thread, that a 500x70 pixel maxsize rule is fine. I went ahead and adopted it for my signature images. However, I probably blew the "5 lines or 1 image" criteria. I did inline the images to keep it all down to four lines with a couple of inlined images though. As far as the content thing goes, I agree. I think people should just apply what they think as acceptable for avatars and message-embedded images to that of sigs.

I like the idea, especially since we have the option of turning off sigs if we don't want to deal with them.

One question, though.... How do you put a picture in your sig??? Mine keeps just coming up as a link to the picture I want when I try it.....

I can't see them as a problem as long as each person can elect to turn them off.

I like the idea as long as it doesn't get out of hand, I think it is kinda neat to see what people can do for sigs (graphic arts wise)

so... bring 'em on

Um, pcitures in signatures don't affect the forum bandwith, as they're hosted on other sites. They do affect user and host-server dandwiths, however.

Signature guidelines...

I have updated the forum guidelines to include a signature clause:

Signatures

Text... Text signatures should be no more then 5 lines long. Each line should have no more then 100 characters.

Images... Signature Images should not exceed 70 pixels in height and 500 pixels in width. If you have more then one image in your signature, the combined size should not go over 70 x 500.

Signatures and avatars are subject to the same basic guidelines above. Please do not mix images and text. Pick one format, and stick to it.

I'll review this guideline in a weeks time to see how it holds up
