Help a Newbie Understand!!!

I'm starting this thread as a reference for Newbies such as my self. As a new bicycle enthusiast and member of the forums I enjoy reading the threads and am embarrassed to ask questions when I come across terms used that I have never heard before. :o
Can you old hats help us here?

My First question is:
What is a stay?

The stays make up the rear triangle of the bicycle frame that holds the back wheel. The chain stay runs back from the bottom bracket to the rear wheel and the seat stay runs from the top of the seat tube down to the back wheel. On a women's mixte frame there is a third stay called(you guessed it) the mixte stay.

The search function helps a lot, there were a lot of words I didn't know but I found people explaining their meanings in other threads. If it's a more obscure word, usually someone has already asked about its meaning.

BTW, if you didn't know already, the late Sheldon Brown (as seen above) has a great bike glossary along with a website with almost everything you need to know about bikes:

Now you know what a stay is you must shave your legs and ride your bike without underwear.

"Stay": A common command for a dog. Usually preceded by "come" and followed by, "good boy" :p

Don't be embarrassed to ask. You are free to ask questions in General Cycling, and no one will be mean to you :) .

Uhuh. "Stay": A common command for a dog, usually preceded by "stay... stay... stay... stay..." Followed by "Damn it! I said stay. Hey! Come back here. No, don't go digging in the Johnson's flowers. Oh, God! What have you rolled in! Is that a skunk?...";)

It is also a common command that will get cats to rolling on the floor in laughter:D

Thanks again for the help and the humor! I will be learning much from you all but I am sorry I can bring myself to shave my legs. (my wife said she is worried when a trucker wants me to shave) Also, unlike Britney Spears, I will be wearing my underwear!

We were half joking about the shaving, but serious about the underwear.
