    Sold trainer, bought new helmet.

Wasn't sure whether to put this thread here, in the training & nutrition or the advocacy & safety roomroom. I'll put it here & if the mods. want to move it so be it.

I recently sold my Cycle Ops Fluid trainer. I have not used it in the past couple of years & sold it to a used sports equipment store.

I then bought a new helmet, Specialized Air Force 3, from my LBS.

My previous helmet developed a problem. Maybe someone here can help me figure out why to prevent it from happening to my new helmet.

The inside of the helmet started to erode away like something acidic was dissolving it. I keep my hair very short, an inch or less. Therefore I have to use sunblock on my head to prevent sunburn. I use SPF 30 to 45 & use NO-AD or Banana Boat brand. I like the continuous spray/no rub. I think what happened with my helmet is the sunblock mixed with my sweat & turned into an acid & started to erode the inside of the helmet. Has anyone ever heard of this? Is this what could have happened?

I am going to start using Burt's Bee's SPF 30 sunblock. I prefer natural products over synthetics when using topical items such as sun block, etc. I hope the natural ingredients do not do what the synthetic ones did from the other sun blocks I used.

I can not use or no longer like to use a doo-rag or head band because I did have an accident, did not hit my head, but because of the head band or doo-rag the helmet all but slipped off of my head.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

spf rating may be too high, try a 4 or 8, not sure that will do it, but the higher the rating, the more of the good gunk they put in it. Just a thought.

Try using a coolmax or similar type head wrap instead of sunscreen. Besides helping to keep the sweat out of your eyes, it prevents you from slathering your head with sunscreen that contains cancer causing chemicals. If you must use sunscreen, use an organic one

Not to sound smary or anything, but if that's the case then you weren't wearing the helmet right. Or there is something you're not telling us, like you've got a cone shaped head or something.
This is Africa, 1943. War spits out its violence overhead and the sandy graveyard swallows it up. Her name is King Nine, B-25, medium bomber, Twelfth Air Force. On a hot, still morning she took off from Tunisia to bomb the southern tip of Italy. An errant piece of flak tore a hole in a wing tank and, like a wounded bird, this is where she landed, not to return on this day, or any other day.
