O.k I'll reset the computer and try again to post a pic?
Still to big everytime I down load a file It's too big
any body got any Ideas how to down size em In windows 98se
maybe It can't be done?

Joe Gardner 10-21-03 03:44 PM

You need to reduce the files size with some type of photo editing software.

chip 10-21-03 03:49 PM

Right

I don't know when that'll happen I don't plan on getting another computer for afew years anyway..too bad you guys couldn't accept them In any size then you could down size em?just a thought

chip 10-21-03 03:56 PM

Getting around large files?

Joe Is there any way of me getting around those large files
for example what If a person was to email a pic to your email address
can it be transferred that way..or Is the thing to complicated?

Joe Gardner 10-21-03 03:56 PM

What is anysize? How large is your photo?

There are dozens of free applications that will allow you to size your photo, or save them for web use.

chip 10-21-03 04:00 PM

size of photo?

My photo Is about four times too large according to the attachment reminder

chip 10-21-03 04:02 PM

what a real bicycle looks like?

I just wanted to post a pic of a real bicycle

Joe Gardner 10-21-03 04:11 PM

1 Attachment(s)
Your attachment can be up to 100k in size. That is more then big enough for most images. Most attachments are in the 30k size. Yours is 400k?! Look at the forum logo, that is 5k in size... you really need to shrink that image

chip 10-21-03 04:22 PM

I sent you a email Joe

I sent you a emal threw yahoo..I enclosed the pic

Kev 10-21-03 05:26 PM

You can use Paint Shop pro to edit it.. another free app is infranview http://www.irfanview.com it has a option to shrink your picture down to a specified size.

Joe has to limit the size of pic's can you imagine if he did not? Let's say it was 400k, so 5 pics posted a day not to heavy a load so that is 2 megs a day.. 14 megs a week.. 60 megs a month 700 megs a year and this forum has been around for quite a few years. And joe has to pay for the bandwidth (bigger pictures more bandwidth), more storage so higher cost and I believe I'm correct in saying Vbulletin (software that runs forums) stores pictures actualy in the database itself so that means alot larger database to deal with. So ALOT of drawbacks, and only saves us users a couple seconds to shrink down the pic or host it somewhere else. And keeps annoyance down for other uers, alot of people are still on dial up, do you know how long it takes to show a 400k pic on dialup?

chip 10-21-03 05:47 PM

Pic size 132352

Your max pic size Is 102400 so I blew your max by only 29952 that ain't too bad I figure I got It down a lot?My pic size Is 132352

Joe Gardner 10-21-03 05:54 PM

Try to get it under 50k.

Kev, I know have the option to store attachments in a directory, not the database. I have not yet made the change, but plan on doing so soon.

chip 10-21-03 06:01 PM

would that accept my pic then?

The only way I could cut the pic down any more would be to stand back a bit more when i take the pic..but I can't cut down on the download any more with this computer?I sure didn't blow It by much did I?
according to what I idicated?

travis200 10-21-03 06:06 PM

Email me the pix. I should be able to shrink it down for you. travis200@triathlete.com

chip 10-21-03 06:13 PM

I emailed It to you

travis200 10-21-03 06:21 PM

I just cropped some of the outside picture off leaving the bike untouched.

chip 10-21-03 06:28 PM

so was I far out?

Thanks for doing that..It would of been better If I could of done It I don't know what else I could do...Do you?Would they post If I had more distance from the bike..or Is it a differant Issue like resolution?I can't do any better

travis200 10-21-03 06:44 PM

I used this free program to crop the picture http://www.irfanview.com/ plus it is a picture viewer also.

chip 10-21-03 06:48 PM

Well I want to hear from JOE first?

Maybe JOE is going to allow a bigger max..I think he indicated such.I got a feeling It's because I haven't donated yet..If that Is the problem then I want to hear It from Joe?

Joe Gardner 10-21-03 06:55 PM

Nope, I have no plans on increasing the attachment size. 100K for images is more then enough space. Donating member or not.

chip 10-21-03 06:56 PM

I don't believe my pic was too big?

If Sherpa can fix them up then Joe could of also?I think the problem Is a donation
Isn't It?Cause Sherpa didn't cut into the bicycle itself when he sent It.I'm not that stupid I can clearly see the problem Is one of a donation right Joe?

chip 10-21-03 07:00 PM

Whats 132352?Is that a 100K or what

because thats how big the pic was when i scaled it down the most i could do?

Joe Gardner 10-21-03 07:09 PM

That is closer to 129K in size. Still 30% larger then acceptable.

Honestly, your picture isnt of the best quality to start off with. There is NO quality loss for web viewing between 100k and 400k in size.

chip 10-21-03 07:17 PM

129k

Yup I checked It out It's 129K
Well I guess it's back to the drawing
board..My brother is a P.C. specialist
so he'll be coming home around xmas
so i'll check Into what i can do from here?
Thanks for allowing all the posts and such
We all live and learn, see ya later
