Does Mongoose make a "Cambridge" model?
Greets,
I was getting advice on making my hybrid beater ugly over in the car-free forum, when I tried to track down information on my bike model. I bought the thing for $5 at Goodwill, and wanted to know more about it.
The emblem and logo are Mongoose, and the model sticker says "Cambridge," but I can't find any info quickly on mongoose.com or on google. So does anyone know if Cambridge is a model, or what? Dumb question, for sure.

Mongoose is a basic department store brand. Nothing to write home about, and the $5 you paid for it used is probably about right. I wouldn't put much effort into making it ugly, as it would only cost you another fin to replace it. Just use a decent lock and secure it correctly- through the frame and back wheel, connected to something immovable.

Fuji makes a Cambridge. It's a utility/crusier with canti brakes & some years, like my wife's Cambridge, came with a Shimano Nexave 7 speed hub.

Doesn't Mongoose sell two lines of bikes, one in Wal-Mart-type stores and the other in bike shops? Like Schwinn?

It may be a decent bike. Mongoose wasn't always owned by Pacific. People with no
knowledge of the past shouldn't judge all bikes of a brand by what they are now. Pacific is a purveyor of crap plastered with names they bought. The older Mongoose was a fine ride.
And yes, some brands Pacific owns also have a bike shop line......How they can have both junk and decent bikes running at the same time is very odd to me. If you buy one of the junky models, you think that's all they make and never buy another.,,,,BD
As far as a Mongoose "Cambridge", never heard of it. Pictures would help immensely.
Pacific owns most of the old names that use to mean something. That includes Mongoose, Schwinn, Diamondback, etc etc etc

The wheels are "700x38c"s size-wise, if that helps. Shimano derailleurs, 3 front gears, 7 rear. "Joytech" quick release on the front, aluminum rim.
The shifter is weird. It covers the entire right grip and controls both the front and rear derailleurs. Haven't quite figured out HOW to select the specific gear I'm aiming for at a given moment. The shifter housing is labeled "EGS Synchro Shift." It's kind of annoying, tbh.
Any ideas? I'm not operating under the illusion that I'm riding a carbon fiber frame with antigravity rims; I just want to know what this thing is, and why I can't find it anywhere on the web. [shrug]

Judging by the RD and crankset, this looks like a discount-store bike. A great deal at $5, tho. Looks functional, if all the parts work. Ride it, keep it locked. No accounting for the taste of thieves.

I have one of these bikes. Deep red in color. It was purchased at walmart new about 10 yrs ago. Its a bit quirky on the shifting but rides well. A good commuter for sure. You could almost consider it a Hybrid. It sold close to 200 bucks when new. I got mine at a discount for some reason I can,t remember now. So for 5 bucks your in good. I still have mine and recently got new tires for it and works great.

I got the exact same bike last night. A neighbor was throwing out and I brought it home and oiled and cleaned it up. You're right though, I am perplexed on the shifter.
