SPD-R & SPD...compatibility?

If a shoe description states that it is 2-bolt SPD-R compatible...does this also mean it is compatible with standard SPD???

No. SPD's hole pattern is side by side, whereas the SPD-R is one hole in front of the other. If that is the shoe you want, there might be an adapter. I know there are adapters to use SPD cleats with shoes made for Look cleats.

Ok...but what if the shoe has those "sliding" holes, such as this:

https://kozy.com/itemdetails.cfm?acti...features=16577

Would it then be compatible with both SPD-R and SPD?

Yes, those shoes can use SPD-R, but those pedals aren't in production anymore. That shoe would still be good to buy as it is compatible with delta pattern and SPD pattern cleats.

Thanks! I'm actually not interested in SPD-R...but a particular pair of shoes that I was looking at online, stated that they were SPD-R compatible, but said nothing about standard SPD. They had the sliding holes, so that's why I figured that they were also SPD compatible...but wanted to be absolutely sure.

I just changed from SPD-R to SPD and the LBS just popped on the cleats with no problem. But, I am looking at them and I see that the two cleats attach very differently, so I have no idea how they did it.
Oh, I just saw the post above. Maybe my shoes have the sliding holes like that.

Hmm...can somebody be kind enough to post a picture of an SPD-R cleat...on a shoe, if possible? I'd just like to actually see what the difference between the two are.

Google is your friend. There's a good example on this page: https://www.chicagolandbicycle.com/pedalcleats.htm

Ahhh...now I understand how the SPD-R fits on a shoe. Ok...that pic definitely answers my question of about shoes being both SPD-R and SPD compatible. THANKS!!!
