Bicycle Blueprints
Does anyone here happen to know a source of online bicycle blueprints? Or blueprints of bicycle parts?

Try the Shimano website.
Years ago I had some beautiful black and white line drawings (not blueprints) of Shimano components. I was going to frame them and hang them in my workshop but I got distracted before it got done. |
I'd like to have a few blueprints or detailed technical drawings - so I'll be watching this thread with interest.
Thanks for the great topic! |
Sturmey Archer has beautiful expoded views of there 3 speed hubs dating back to 1902. Very cool stuff. http://www.sturmey-archerheritage.com/history.php

Thank you to both Retro Grouch and oneredstar! :)
Anybody else got any more? |
BikeCAD for generating your own bike drawings.
Fallbrook's exploded view of the NuVinci hub Rohloff 500/14 exploded view |
You can search US library of congress : http://www.loc.gov/index.html
US patent office has images of patents and is often a source for old bicycle related prints : http://patft.uspto.gov |
Why do you ask, BTW?

I'd like to get some, because I have access to a plotter and can print out a large drawing to hang up. I think it would look neat.

Nevertheless, we have to choose an object as our first step, and I've chosen the bicycle (what a surprise) ... and now I have to create three iterations of this object. One of my iterations, I think, will be the obvious ... a bicycle as a machine. I'm not sure how I'm going to express that but one of my ideas was to do so in the form of a collage of blueprints and technical drawings. And that's about as far as I've gotten with that. ---------------------- That assignment aside, I also have an interest in bicycle blueprints because I am an Engineering Technologist, and I spent 8 years of my life creating and working with mechanical drawings for a farm machinery manufacturer. That sort of thing interests me ... I have been fascinated by the drawings I've looked at already here. When I got my certification, my big project at the end of the year was to draft an iso of a bicycle brake, complete with individual drawings of each component. I have a photo of the iso somewhere ... and I'm sure I still have the whole collection somewhere, although I know that some of it was damaged in a flood. It is likely in storage somewhere (most of my stuff is). I haven't worked in the field now for about 4 years ... I've been heading in a different direction ... but part of me would like to take some refresher courses and get back into it again. :) |

Don't worry, I've got several different tour plans simmering on the backburners right now ... two of which do involve islands. :) |
I actually did understand what you were talking about, save that you didn't give the whole thing. What's puzzling you?

how about a video on designing a bike or 3d model of a bike?
I have not had time to check the links myself, but i got this link in my email. I use the same software and this is one of their marketing spam emails. http://mkt.solidworks.com/emarketing_enu/start.swe |

If an object is both multiple and singular, if what appears to be one may be many, and if the appearance of singularity is produced by strategies of coordination, then let us reveal this 'scandal of the object' by shedding it of its ordering logics. Create 3 different iterations of an object. explore the fractionality of the object through the production of different object positions that break from the strategies of coordination speculate on the modes of interpellation of subject positions in each iteration play with or embrace interference/noise/oscillation trouble the assumptions of perspectivalism (Euclidean assumptions) to break from their ontological and epistemological consequencesby enacting iterations through different optics to resituate knowledges deploy multiple narratives or material-semiotic conditions -------------------- So ... with that in mind, I have chosen the bicycle as my object and I have come up with 3 iterations: 1) Bicycle as machine - mechanical, manufactured, capable of movement ... and for this section I'm thinking of creating more or less a collage of blueprints and such things, since this "paper" doesn't necessarily have to be written. 2) Bicycle as gateway to freedom, escape, adventures, new experiences ... away from the usual and mundane 3) Bicycle as companion ... going into the gendering of inanimate objects, etc. Now I will say this .... most of what I wrote there, from my instructions ... I really don't get, but I'm doing what I can with what I do get. :) |
Anyone else got any blueprints of bicycles?

Campagnolo has exploded views in its parts manuals. They should all be available on their web site.

If your library has "The Dancing Chain" there are some pretty nice illustrations.

How about some Daniel Rebour drawings?
