Five Boro Bike Tour...A big marketing mistake

Okay this is a purely personal rant but somebody should alert their marketing people that they are making a big mistake.

I am really excited and looking forward to riding the tour and participating in the "madnessl". After registering, I go on line to purchase a jersey and for a recreational tour with 35,000 riders, the only jerseys being offered are a race cut style. The xxl fits a 46" chest according to the sizing chart and it's the largest size available. I'd bet that if they sold 3xls and/or club cut jerseys, they would sell tons more.

Having been born in Brooklyn and growing up on the Island, riding NYC streets without traffic is going to be an experience of a lifetime. I'll buy a tee shirt but a jersey and shorts would have been the perfect souveniers.

Now you know why recumbent riders dig the hawaiian t-shirts: hardly anyplace makes cycling clothes for anyone more than about 3% bodyfat.

Kucharik is one company that goes a bit larger with some of their clothes--jerseys to 50":

Wow, you are right. The amount of money they could make would be so much more if they offered the 5 XLS and 10 XLS sizes as well.

i'm guessing they did their research and know what they're doing. I doubt spending the money on @XL+ sizes would turn a profit, but perhaps they could've offered special orders.

BTW, you won't be riding the streets "traffic free", you will be surrounded by the throng of tourists who wouldn't know how to ride in a straight line if their lives depended on it. Despite that (and the ususally chilly weather), it is still a great day.

I have went to the 5B the last 8 years in a row, it is a lot of fun if you don't take it serious. If you go expecting a *tour* you will be b!tching and moaning here on Bike forums the following week.

BTW,They seldom sell out of jerseys, a few months after the ride they usually offer the left overs at a discount.
