    what quality level are the shimano m442 cranks?

    Looks very similar to an Alivio crankset, save that this one has a 4 bolt system whereas the Alivio cranksets are riveted, I believe. I also don't see any pick-up teeth on that chainring, but that could just be the picture.

    Anyways, it looks very similar to the Alivio one in features and style.

    They're an excellent crank for the money. http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/Crankset...ct_86569.shtml No shame in using them on a bike. If you're not racing the extra weight won't hurt. Good luck
