would you buys old Zipps?

Hey,
I'm a newbie to this forums but have been cycling for a long time and I am in need of some honest opinions. I am planning on being a time trailist, but I do a lot of everything like track racing or stage races, but I don't have a lot of money. I want to get something that will work really well in TT's and will last forever. I friend of mine offered me 2007 dimpled Zipp 404's that have only been raced a couple of times for $1000. Tell me what you thin, is this a good price, are these really good wheels for TT's? Thanks in advance for he responses! How will these compare to my current wheels which are Bontrager Race XX lite.

Zipp 404's are very good wheels, and if he's truthful about the fact that they've only been raced a couple of times, $1,000 is very inexpensive. They are ideal for time trials - the only way you'd be likely to get much faster than the Zipp 404s is to get a rear disc (you can always buy a disc later). I'm usually against buying used wheels, but I'd buy them for that price.

OK, Zipps are good, but they won't last forever.

zipps

I saw somewhere that you can buy (i don't really know what this is), a plastic/carbon small flat disk that fits inside a regular zipp wheel, and thus makes it a disk wheel. Am I making this uP? Do they actually work, and where and for how much can I buy them fro if it's worth it?

Check out this wheel cover: http://www.excelsports.com/new.asp?p...jor=1&minor=24

I'm not sure if you can use it with a Zipp 404 because of the depth of the rim. You could probably use it with your old Bontrager rear wheel. I've heard good things about this wheel cover. Never tried it myself, though.
