Inflating tires for first time

Hi there,

I'm the definition of noob. I bought a Trek 1000 last year and broke my foot (not related to cycling) soon thereafter, so it sat idle during the winter and it's time to hop back on!!

I've bought a nice floor pump and am inflating the tires. I am looking to go around 100 PSI as it says on the tirewall, but the tire doesn't seem to want to take any more air, and the gauge is at about 50. tire feels pretty firm to me, as well...

Doing something wrong?

Thanks for the help!

Make sure you "burp" the valve before you start pumping.
