I'd like to put a hitch on my new Hyundai Sonata but a fellow cyclist in my bike club with the same car told me that the placement of the gas tank prohibits attaching a receiver. Does anyone have a hitch on a 2008 Sonata? Pictures if you have them please.

I had the same doubts for my car a Ford Taurus so I rang them to confirm it would fit & the rack would not hit the back bumper/fender , When it arrived it took approx 15 mins to fit, I was actually embarrassed that I doubted them , LOL

It looks like the only hitch you can install on your vehicle is a Class I hitch. Although the tongue weight of a Class I hitch is nominally 200 lbs, https://www.hollywoodracks.com/supp-trailer-hitch.htm warns:

Class I hitches are rated up to 2000 lbs. gross trailer weight (GTW) with a maximum trailer tongue weight (TW) of 200 lbs. A Class I hitch usually has a 1-1/4" square receiver opening. Class I hitches usually attach to the bumper, truck pan or vehicle frame and are often a custom fit for smaller vehicles. They are not recommended for carrying more than 65 lbs/30 kg. The weight from the bikes can easily exceed the tongue weight due to the fact that as you move the bikes farther from the trailer hitch it dramatically increases the tongue weight. Always try to have a Class II or higher installed.

Bigtruck's hitch appears to be a Class II hitch.

So you're probably better off with a trunk rack.
