Need help w/ 3speed internal gear coaster brake hub

Hello,

I'm trying to find an internal gear hub with coaster brake that has the most gears. I don't want any of the equipment associated with conventional derailleur gear systems or conventional cantilever brake systems. I recently found the Shimano SG-3C41 DX. It is a 3 speed internal gear coaster brake hub. However I can't seem to find information on how to shift its gears. I first learned of this hub while reading about the Africa Bike 3.0 from Kona Bikes. The Africa Bike uses the Shimano SG-3C41 DX.
There doesn't seem to be any gear shifters on the handle bars and there doesn't seem to be any cables leading to the rear hub. So I assume you shift gears by pedaling backwards slightly like the Sachs Torpedo Duomatic 2 speed hub or the Bendix 2 speed kickback hub.

Anyone got any information about this hub?

Thanks

That pic is of a bike without a 3-speed hub; the 3-speed connects to a twist shifter on the handlebar.

Thanks for the reply, Kimmitt. I know that Shimano makes more than one version of the SG-3C41. is it possible there is a version that has no cable or gear shifter?

They all have the cable and gear shifter. I have the one you are talking about on a Townie, and it's pretty neat.

Shimano does have the Coasting system that is essentially a 3-speed, electronic controlled, automatic. You do have to use a special dynamo front hub to power the shifting control box. It does have a coaster brake. No shifter, no cables, but some wiring to set up, and has a control screw to adjust shift point all the way to a second gear only single speed mode.

Yep -- but I checked the schematics, and the one on the Africabike is a standard one with the twist shifter.

I've got one on my Townie as well, and it's quite nice.

Well, the internal gear hub with coaster brakes and the most gears is the Sram i-Motion 9 speed:
