3 bike rack for a Honda Civic
Our two road bikes and 24" kids road bike do not fit on our Saris Bones rack, so I have been reading through countless old threads. I was thinking of adding a 1 1/4" hitch to a 200 Honda Civic until I started reading the Saris Thelma would not provide enough ground clearance. What system would work best?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Most 1 1/4" are 2 bikes only due to the tongue weight limit. You might need to go with a roof rack and then haul your kids bike on the back.

Thule and Yakima systems are pretty universal. When you change cars, you simply change the "feet" of the rack to fit your new car. I had the same Thule system on several cars, and when I moved to a minivan, I simply changed from the clamops that grip the upper doorsills to the kind that wrap around the factory roof rack rails. The crossbars and bike mounts are still the same- since my first car in 1987. As for the price, check CraigsList. People are always putting racks up for sale there.

Try harder and think outside of the top tube. Put one arm of the bike rack under the saddle, behind the seattube at the seattube and seat stay junction. Unless the bikes are odd shaped framed fauxMTBs.
