    Colorado cyclist hits bear

BOULDER A cyclist in Boulder County was injured after a run-in, literally, with a bear.

Tim Egan, 53, was riding on Old Stage Road Tuesday afternoon when suddenly a bear appeared in front of him. Egan hit the bear and ended up skidding across the road.

"This bear looked at me with a look of terror on his face and sort of made a noise," said Egan. "I looked at him with a look of terror and we went, 'aaaahhhhh.'"

    ...

Egan estimated he was going about 45 miles per hour at impact. He said the bear was about 6 feet tall and probably weighed 500 pounds.

His bike was OK so he got back on it and pedaled to the hospital.

    ...

The accident was the second involving a bear and cyclist in Left Hand Canyon in the past two years. A woman in the Boulder Triathlon ran into a bear in the same area last year.

I hit the beer too, usually after I'm finished biking.

I would think that this location would need a Bear Crossing sign and painted crosswalk.

I watched two raccoons cross the road in front of me the other day. Pretty freaky- If I hadn't slowed down, I might have run into them

I wouldn't do that, I would do the Colorado bear first and hope he kills me.

45? Maybe. There are some steep a** sections on Old Stage Road.

Sometimes there's NYC bears above Manitou Springs.

I've ridden those roads outside of Boulder, very easy to hit 45 on the descents....I can't help but wonder what the rider was thinking right before he hit the bear.

I find it hard to believe he hit the bear at 45mph and the bike is fine... even at 45kph i would be surprised the bike is fine...

lol, bear hitter. where is Chuck?
