Good? or convenient?
I'm still searching for a new bike for commuting/campus riding/etc and have narrowed it down to either a GT transeo 3.0 (which I did test ride and liked) versus the Jamis allegro 1x, which looks and sounds really great, but I can't find anywhere outside of driving 4 hours each way to test ride a bike.
So... do I try to make the trip out to a store that has the Jamis to test it out or should I just go to performance and buy a transeo? (the plus side to this would be that if i got a team performance membership, the amount of points I got from the purchase would help towards locks or bike computer or something.) Has anybody had any experience with either of these to reassure me of buying one over the other?
any opinions?
And I'm not really looking for the hassle of buying a used bike :\

Go with the bike you already like. Try to create a good relationship with the closer shop. 8 hours in the car
for a bike you might not like seems a bit much.

My usual advice to people buying a bike to ride around a college campus is to get a POS. That way you won't feel so bad when it gets stolen. Keep your good bike in a secure location and only use it for serious rideing.

Buy a beater off CL or eBay like I did. My campus (UTenn) doesn't seem to be bad for bike theft, but most of them are. Wait until you graduate to get a nice bike. Campus riding and short commuting can be done on anything.
