YAHICHI All Wheel Drive Bike
I have a bicycle named YAHICHI.
It is an all wheel drive bicycle. This is a 4WD equivalent of a bicycle with one legged fork and some clever mechanics transferring the pedal power to the front wheel. It has 20" wheels with Dunlop valves on the inner tubes.
Seems that it needs some maintenance as the chain - there are 4-5 of them- keeps falling off.
Has anyone come acorss these bikes? Seems like too heavy to ride. They don't seem to be too popular elsewhere except in Japan as a search ends up in Japanese sites. The price was JY 54800 for a similar model, about $500.

There was a fellow in the St Louis area who marketed a 2WD bicycle about 10 years ago. If used a bevel gears and a flexible coupling to transfer power from the rear wheel to the front.
It was a solution looking for a problem. Generally with bicycles lack of power is a greater problem than lack of traction. Mechanical devices that eat up power, like bevel gears, flexible couplings and the like have to provide a big pay off in some other area to provide any overall advantage.

2wd motorcycles have also been marketed but are pretty uncommon as well.
