Time enough for love?
I briefly dated an ardent cyclist/racer. Although he was open to the possibility of having the "occasional visitor" (ehm) he was much too busy training and such to become involved in anything more serious.
I'm curious if that is the prevailing attitude of the single male cycling population or an exception?
Since I've taken a fancy to men in bike shorts, I'm wondering if I should look but not flirt...

You might want to look for guys that really enjoy riding but race for fun. Serious racers put just about everything else to the side.

Or just find some guy you like who does not ride but will wear bike shorts for you to tickle your fancy.

Bike shorts, bike shmorts! A fella wearin' cargo shorts and a vividly-colored "Aloha!" shirt would be more attentive and show ya a much better time!
Uh, one that isn't married, I mean.

If you really look like your avatar (and I don't see
any reason not to) this shouldn't be a problem. Given the
pro cyclists who became fathers last year I would say
your ex does have an issue or two .
Go ahead, flirt to your hearts content. . .

Not to sound like a prevert or anything but after a good hard day of riding I get hornier than ever so this fella must have some problems he is not sharing.
Hard Ride=Ready for luvin, but this might not be for everyone so my apologies if intimate physical involvement is not part of your personal relationship plans.

There's a real mix of types of men. Look at Lance Armstrong, real supportive wife, beautiful children, but just driven by what's inside
Then there's Miguel Indurain, quiet humble soul and family man.
This diversity is true in any other sport or social situation.
Dating is like eating a Twinkie, you have to get past the crumby ends before you get to the cream. (OK that sounded rude )

Nuthin silly about dinner and a movie, makes for good recovery and refueling after the ride and preparation for ridin' to come later....
With the attitude you seem to have you'll have no trouble. Just be patient. Good things come to those who wait. Or perhaps just take up cycling yourself if you don't already. Do a search for "bicycle smiles" to get a better idea about women and bikes.

I converted a boy to cycling. He doesn't race, but he does wear bike shorts on our epic trail rides. That's my advice. Convert a guy.

This is probably the very best thing for you to do. If the right person comes along you will trip over them. I did. I had sworn off women and decided I'd be single my whole life and just as I was riding a local trail one comes pulling in and boom! Now I've been Married 6 years and have a beautiful daughter 2 years old.
We both ride with just as much vigor as before and it enhances our relationship very well. I still can't figure why she'd marry a quack like me...

Another thought, if you are actively lookin for love you can ignore/fail to see things that you might need to pay close attention to.
Better to be alone than with the wrong one. Misery does not need company, especially to make it worse. My biggest fear is that my daughter becomes one of these young women who think they just have to have a boyfriend to be complete. I'll try to teach her to be completely independant for personal happiness.

I say just get out there and ride! Attractive, athletic women who like to ride bikes will soon find themselves in a "target rich environment" from a meeting-the-opposite-sex perspective. In most cycling groups, the male:female ratio is typically 3:1 or higher, so the numbers are definitely on your side.
So, if potential BF #1 doesn't have time for the subtler forms of interaction...there's plenty of others in the peloton. Not all cyclists are focused solely on training and racing...plenty of us enjoy drafting a fit, attractive female wearing lycra .

you know what.... i'm almost positive sex is good for cycling. sex elevates testosterone levels in the blood... which should probably increase athletic performance.

I think that being a female cyclist looking for a male cyclist shouldn't be too much of a problem as far as simply finding dates. Finding the "right" one would certainly be more difficult though, as in any other situation. I'm a male nursing student, I'm surrounded by women every day, but still haven't found the woman right for me, I think it just takes time, sometimes a trial and error sort of thing until the right one is found. I think that if you don't rush it, the right person will come at the right time. Look for someone who actually shows his love for you, instead of some guy who repeats those three words in vain and pushes you aside all of the time for his own personal endeavors. A lot of guys will want to be in your pants, but not many will want to be in your heart.

Xythen, I couldn't agree more. I want one of those boys in spandex! I'm training for ALC, so I'm out on the road a lot. I'm bound to find a good one soon. Good luck to you.
